As one of the largest orgs for young people and social change, we at DoSomething.org know chronic homelessness is an issue our 2.5 milllion members want to tackle. The thing is, it’s hard to know where to begin with such a large and complex issue.

That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with Community Solutions on Welcome Home, a campaign which activates 13- to 25-year-olds to create welcome home banners for people moving into permanent supportive housing.

Welcome Home is an opportunity for our members to add a personalized touch to a family’s move-in celebration and turn a house into a home. Our members sign up, make creative banners, and send them to their local Community Solutions 100,000 Homes Campaign partner. Then, the local community lead hangs the banner before the person or family arrives at their home. Quite the homecoming surprise!

Young people have made 94 banners thus far and 1,458 people have signed up for the Campaign. As numbers increase, so does the impact. As one young person told us, “I believe everyone deserves a second chance at life. The 100,000 Homes Campaign provided that second chance to people who are so often overlooked in the USA.”

Another added, “This is important to me because I was fortunate enough to be raised in a household where all my basic needs were met and exceeded, and I can't imagine anyone not having access to a home. Being able to help in any capacity is an honor.”
